Introduction

At Hamstead Hall Academy, we believe that Music helps pupils to become successful learners through the development of independence and creativity.  Throughout their time here students will be given the opportunity to grow in confidence as they perform, compose, listen to and evaluate their own and others’ work.

Music at Hamstead Hall Academy instils creative thought and provides students with a varied and inclusive approach to becoming the musicians they want to be.

During their time at Hamstead Hall Academy, pupils are given the opportunity to showcase their musical talents and perform at various annual concerts such as Black history month, Christmas and Vaisakhi. Pupils also have the exciting opportunity to be a part of the whole school musicals we put on together with the Drama department. Past musicals include Grease, Little shop of horrors, We will rock you, Bugsy Malone and Oliver.

All students are able to enjoy their learning, making progress whilst developing their functional skills through the clear links made to literacy, numeracy and ICT in each project. A fully equipped iMac suite enables pupils to develop their music technology skills as well as their general musicianship.

Music - Curriculum Intent and Vision

Our curriculum is one of ‘success for all through hard work and harmony’, promoting the values of pride, persistence, patience, preparation, and progress.

At Hamstead Hall Academy, we believe that Music helps pupils to become successful learners through the development of independence and creativity.  The music curriculum is highly inclusive and enables all learners to achieve through performance, composition, listening and evaluating their own and others’ work.

Music at Hamstead Hall Academy instils creative thought and provides students with a varied and inclusive approach to becoming the musicians they want to be.

The music curriculum has a clear structure, offering opportunities for continued Music study into KS4. Pupils are prepared for KS4 through a carefully mapped and sequential KS3 curriculum that adopts a historical approach, through the teaching of musical styles and genres over time. This provides students with a holistic approach to their musical progression, ensuring they have context to their learning and their creativity. The schemes of work take into account pupils’ own community, heritage and traditions to help enrich their learning and develop cultural capital.

Assessment and target setting within the music department is deliberately ambitious to raise aspirations and to instil a sense of personal pride in achievement.

All students are exposed to musical theory and concepts behind the creation of music which are then applied practically, ensuring progress whilst developing their functional skills through the clear links made to literacy, numeracy and ICT in each project.

We strongly uphold “success for all through hard work and harmony”.
