Introduction

Geography is part of our everyday lives, so come and discover the world around you. The world in which we live is likely to change more in the next 50 years than it has ever done before. Geography explains why, and helps to prepare you for those changes.

At Hamstead Hall students will study the new and updated Geography key themes including Natural Hazards, Rivers & Coasts, and Ecosystems. They’ll explore challenges in the human environment and urban issues and the changing economic world.

Curriculum Intent and Vision

Our inclusive curriculum is one of ‘success for all through hard work and harmony’, promoting the values of pride, persistence, patience, preparation, and progress.

In Geography, our main aim is to inspire pupils to be curious and fascinated about the world.  Teaching aims to equip pupils with a holistic knowledge about the earth’s diverse places, peoples, resources, natural and human environments so that they can better understand how its key physical and human processes are shaped, interconnected and changed over time.  We will introduce all our students to a broad and balanced range of physical, human and environmental topics and issues. We aim to develop our students as the topics and issues studied become more complex and interconnected.

This includes studying current geopolitical issues to enable them to become informed global citizens so that they can see how government policies, waste management and the use of resources can and will impact on their lives beyond their locality.  This knowledge will make them responsible global citizens and help them recognise how they can contribute to a future that is sustainable and inclusive.

Within Geography, we plan to challenge pupils’ beliefs about the world we live in.  Many of our pupils come from multi-cultural backgrounds which can be used to enhance their understanding and appreciation of a diverse world, the differences and similarities between people’s views, its environments, societies and cultures. Our intention is to help them firstly to develop and then apply their learning to the real world through fieldwork and other learning experiences. 

We will encourage our pupils to develop skills which may be transferable to other subjects and disciplines and which may even be of help with their chosen employment in later life.   Finally, we hope that by making global citizens of them, our pupils will always be inquisitive and caring about the wonderful world which we all inhabit and use their knowledge to ensure that future generations inherit an even better world.
